So Windows XP Service Pack 3 hasn’t yet been released into the Windows Update or Microsoft Download sites. But I am still able to install it with a direct link download. Where can you get your own copy? Maybe you should try the Do It Yourself Service Pack software from Heise Security. The article was written in December 2006, but on page four it links you to the project download page. I link the article so you can read about what it does and how it does it. I’d like to mention that not only will it do security updates for Windows OSs, it will also perform security updates for MS Office. I love this product. You have blacklist options and you can even add files/KB articles to the normal security updates if you feel them necessary. I just did an update and it downloaded and installed Service Pack 3 for me as well. Very nice!
I like to use this product to keep up-to-date updates for Windows and Office on a USB key for when I visit client sites. As soon as Microsoft releases SP3 on the Windows Update site, we’re going to scheudle visits to all of our clients at Nutmeg Consulting to do a round of OS and Office updates. We’re purchasing a few 4GB USB keys from NewEgg to hold the updates and perform multiple upgrades per technician per visit.

Service Pack 3 has been released since the writing of this article. You should go get it! Funny, they say it was released on 5/6/2008 - but it wasn’t found on any searches on MS websites or in Windows Update when I wrote the post (I checked).
