About
There are two authors to this page: Chris Shipley and Travis Nichols. If you want to read some new stuff, check out the meat and potatoes! If you’re having PC difficulties, try using our Computer Tech Search Engine (CTSE), it concentrates on the sites we frequent to have the best answers to questions.
My name is Chris. I got my first computer when I was 8 years old, 1983! It was a huge desktop that must weigh 40 lbs with a solid-steel case, amber-on-black monitor, 2 floppy disk drives and a gargantuan 10MB hard drive. The keyboard was steel, too! My father allowed me to play with it and even went so far as to force me to do all of my homework on the computer: papers and even math homework. Do you know how hard it is to do math equations in a DOS-based text editor? I do! My Dad went so far as to show me how to turn it on, how to invoke a program, maybe how to save a file… but when it came to the intricacies of the Word Processor (mmm, Wordstar 2000), his reply was “Read the manual.” So Chris, 8 years old, started deciphering technical manuals. Back then, screenshots were pretty rare.
Today, I’m an owner of a Hartford, Connecticut-based technology consulting company. I wanted to start this page with some colleagues because we know a lot of cool information, have some neat stories to share and want to see if we can build a little community of online tech people, maybe even some users! Can we make money doing it? I dunno, we hope so. This is an area for us to test out a few things to see if they could stick before trying to launch it in a more structured business arena.
Its a bit of a vanity page, too. We are legend! Well, at least to the people that rely on us for help. We’re ridiculously genius! Truly we’re not that arrogant. It’s a bit of a joke to us how smart people think we are sometimes. A friend and client of mine once asked me how I “know all that stuff,” and I flippantly replied “Because I’m a genius.” haha, she won’t let me live it down, but what the hell – I’ll laugh at myself. Sure, a test somewhere in my distant past might have labeled me as one but what the hell does that mean anyway?
Travis hasn’t posted yet, and we’re probably going to reorganize this page when he does but that’s okay!
Yes, this is just a blog software with a nifty theme. We’re legends, and sometimes that means recognizing when not to reinvent the frakkin’ wheel. We just want to get our message out there, not design something that doesn’t need to be redesigned (like a whole website management system)! If this stops suiting our purposes, we’ll move to something else – or maybe design our own. But as long as there are good alternatives to doing that footwork, we’ll avoid it.
